ST PETE ARTWORKS

The Cooperative Gallery of
The Gulf Coast Artists Alliance

St Pete Artworks is the Cooperative Gallery of the Gulf Coast Artists' Alliance. Its walls and aisles host 17 local artist members who share the responsibilities of opening its retail space six days a week. Some of St. Pete's most prolific artists are among its members, but membership is open to artists at all levels.

The gallery was located in a storefront on Central Avenue's 600 block for years, moving to its new Grand Central digs at 2412 Central Avenue just months ago.

Its walls and aisles host 17 local artist members who share the responsibilities of opening its retail space six days a week. The gallery offers a wealth of styles, media and form and opportunities for art lovers who need quality, original fine art on a budget as well as those not guided by price. St. Pete Artworks offers St. pete a prime selection of inspired, original fine art in almost all of its forms and styles.

In addition to regular daytime office hours and weekends, St. Pete Artworks is open until 9 pm on Second and Third Saturdays each month for St. Pete's 2nd Saturday Art Walk and the opening reception for the Coop's featured monthly artist. Every month for 2nd Saturday they feature a talented local musician.

David Larson Evans' exibition "Persona", was featured at the gallery in July and on display for St. Pete's most recent Second Saturday ArtWalk.

Evans strives to paint the whole person in his work, "not just a pretty picture of a figure in light". He attempts to look more closely into his subject's unique self, subtly conveying that to the viewer with the goal of making a significant statement. Larson always paints portraits of people and several of his works feature the same model, his friend Teresa.

The Tampa artist began oil painting in 2007 as break from his work as a printmaker. He states that for him, discovering and contemplating beauty is a lifetime process.

At the most recent Second Saturday Art Walk, the gallery was full of creators there to meet and enlighten visitors on their work. Quality is the striking impression that a walk of its aisles creates. The collection contains a wealth of inspired and thoughtfully created selections, spanning a varied range of styles and media. Artists selling their amazing original works there include sculptors, painters, mixed media and multi-media artists, illustrators, jewelers, glass artists and more.

The work of Judy Vienneau is currently featured in the gallery in her exhibition "Unexpected Color," on display there through Sept. 12. In it, she integrates a new artistic medium, acrylic paint, into the wire sculpture forms that characterize her work, incorporating them as colorful geometric backdrops in the series that is a study in color and its unexpected use in traditional and non-traditional scenes and collages.

Ms. Vienneau is the Executive Director of the GCAA. She is a seasoned professional artist who has exhibited in galleries and juried exhibitions throughout Florida and the Northeast. She worked in commercial graphic design and advertising after earning her BFA in Graphic Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston and has spent the last twenty-five years studying traditional sculptural techniques.

The mission of the GCAA, a 501-C-3 non-profit corporation, is to provide the local community with an opportunity to network, share resources, conduct workshops and classes and hold exhibitions. The cooperative is completely staffed by volunteers from its membership.

The group meets every 3rd Sunday, when artists bring samples and photos of their work for show and tell.
