Most artists, especially full time artists, are experiencing dramatically reduced income right now. Most make their living from a combination of public event, gallery, location and online sales. Of these, only online sales remain in the current pandemic environment. Derek Donelly, a local artist with a striking visual presence in downtown St Pete, has put together a collaboration between his non-profit, The Public Art Project, and the city of St. Petersburg cultural affairs department, private citizens, local businesses, marketing agencies and artists called The Paint It Forward Project. Paint it Forward makes it possible for the Public Art Project to offer full time artists at $150-300 stipend to produce photos and video of them creating. The posts can be instructional, project how-tos, or just entertainment, especially projects families can do together while stuck at home durimg quarantine. The intent is to promote a team spirit among artists while demonstrating the importance of the arts to St. Pete culture. Paint It Forward held an online auction via live stream on Sun Mar 29 to benefit local artists. Buyers bid live on stream via Facebook here . You can see the results in the comments. For more information on Paint It Forward, visit facebook.com/publicartproject. ABOVE: Artist Derek Donelly announces the Paint It Forward live auction.  St Pete Opera regular Rachel Policar created this parody and posted it on YouTube after several days of quarantine. She and her husband left NYC for South Jersey to escape the worst of the virus there, then self-quarantined in their home to avoid being carriers. Rachel has appeared in a number of SPO productions, most recently Holiday Sparkle in December. She told SPO that she made the video because she needed some levity in her life while brainstorming ways to stay creative at her computer. It has become popular. Like so many musicians and performing artists, she is out of work during the current pandemic. Here's Rachel the way you might normally see her, performing The Silver Aria - Ballad of Baby Doe  St Pete Opera Artistic Director Mark Sforzini shared this video to lift everyone's spirits in an email on Friday. It's a video featuring Samuel Hall's performance of "Nessum Dorma (no one sleeps)" from Puccini's Turandot, part of St. Pete Opera's 2016 Seasonal Sparkle production.
